That's using your head 51-53

The Alter Rebbe in the last few chapters tackles the issue of systematic contractions leading to a differentiation between various organs and biological systems. The question arises if G-d is everywhere so why don't we worship everywhere and in every way. Why was it decreed that it must be through contraction into the physical world that we would be given the chance to unite with infinity.

Similarly, if the all organs of the body are endowed with life -which varies only in quantity or intensity from organ to organ, why do we then accord such special regard for certain organs over others. First and foremost the head, and also the heart, the lungs etc.

The body - the organs, and their interaction - are often used as a metaphor for the commandments. The commandments, our various paths in worship, are by definition products of the contracting of the Infinite Light of G-d. The Alter Rebbe explains further that the life force contained in each organ is not just quantitatively different from the next one, but in its essential qualities, the Light and Life Force that dwells in each organ is different.

This is apparent in the physical reality, where each experience, each being is unique not just on a quantitative objective level but also on a qualitative subjective level Likewise, in the organs and likewise, in the commandments. Why is this important? We must understand that the variations in the worlds and in the contracted beings have their root in the G-dly form. Because a different form of light comes to illuminate and vitalize every being, we are his emissaries - with each commandment we access a unique life-force and the source of the uniqueness, the very definitions by which space and time seem to appear and disappear.

This is why our actions down here can now affect the loftiest of beings.
